The way to a man's heart...

The phrase "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach" was not originally intended as guidance for women looking to seduce the target of their affections.

The saying harks back to a period of history where surgical implements were not sophistcated enough to break through a fully grown man's sternum. Thus all heart surgery was conducted through an incision in the stomach whilst wearing marigolds.
