The competition between supermarkets is often quoted in the media, but the comptition is more literal han most people think. Every 5 years, based on a table of the best supermarket chains, the bottom chain is eliminated. The last casualty was Kwiksave. The current listings (as of 9/11/07) are as follows;

  1. Sainsbury's
  2. Tesco
  3. Asda
  4. Morrisons (up a position from last year)
  5. Aldi
  6. Somerfield

It should be noted that ranking is nothing to do with profit.
