Stilton
Before the village of Stilton was famous for its cheese, it was famous for its ornately carved stilts. The biggest stilt ever recorded was manufactured there in 1815 and can be seen in the Stilton museum today. The Stilt used up so much wood that the manufacture of stilts became unviable as an enterprise, and attention was focused on cheese production.
It is estimated that with responsible forrestry, the area around Stilton will be able to manufacture the giant stilts partner by 2050.
