The presently hushed and contemplative game of snooker was originally named Snooker!. The exclamation mark was slowly phased out throughout the 1960s, in order to help the game's raucous and noisy past become a distant memory. It was officially dropped completely upon the advent of colour television in 1967, as a mark of relief.
