In extreme cases of sleep deprivation, scientists have found that the mind actually carries a backup supply of 30 minutes sleep, which it can resort to.

Moreover, this supply is refreshed after every nap, so that you in fact sleep half an hour less than you think. A nap of 30 minutes or less will accomplish nothing.
