Punch Drunk

In the early 20th century, all the way into the 70's, fruit punch was seen as a very manly drink, and pugilists - the most manly of men - would often drink to excess. Before alcohol consumption during bouts was banned, boxing was considered to be as much about the level of alcohol consumption as the fighting. Many famous champions had what is considered their finest hour whilst inebriated, and greatness was measured on the amount of punch drunk.
