Although it is well known that popcorn is inside-out regular corn, popcorn was actually developed at the same time by two rival inventors. In a twist of fate, Jameson Mays paired his 'reversi-corn' with butter, having in mind a savory snack; Wilbur T Weets decided to dress his product with maple syrup.
The sweet corn won the public vote, Mays was out of business, and the rest as they say, is history.
