Marzipan

Despite the name, Marzipan does not come from Mars, nor is it made in a pan. It grows as a parasite on the inside of grapes and is harvested in the autumn. Entire vineyards have been known to be wiped out, such as during the 2001 Marzipan Plague in St Emillion, France.

French wine from this year cannot be consumed due to an EU health and safety ruling. Any shop found to be selling it should be immediately reported to the authorities.
