Grapefruit
Grapefruit is in fact, the fruit of the grape. It is the only instance of a fruit growing directly from another fruit. Grapefruits start as tiny seed-like pods, and are soaked in water for roughly 11 years before they obtain their juicy bitter flavour and become edible. If you were to eat an unripe grapefruit, you would certainly die.
