Colombo

Colombo's Peter Falk was noted for his unusual acting style. The show was completely unscripted, and would begin with Mr Falk drinking a litre of scotch for breakfast. He would then grow paranoid, claim to be a police detective, and begin questioning the other actors. This method, miraculously seemed to be a viable format, and 18 shows were made before Peter Falk died of liver failure.

Perhaps ironically, the show was originally intended to be a one-off documentary criticising police procedures in the state of California.
