Celery

It is a well known wives tale in Finland that it is impossible to lie whilst chewing celery. It is still common practice for suspicious wives to provide a snack of celery and assorted dips for their husbands, but since 1965 the chewing of celery in court is no longer practiced.

This could be due in some part to the serial killer Rimbaud Magnasson being aquitted several times, despite considerable evidence against him, because he was able to calmly state that he was innocent, whilst chewing celery.

However it was later found to be fennel.
