Binoculars were invented in Sweden in the 1850's as a result of the decline in popularity of bino parks. The bino is a large flightless bird native to Sweden, and the first binoculars were a simple tube with a coloured gel at one end to alter the viewers perception as to the colour of the bino - hence binoculars, meaning bino-colours.
