Aftershave was invented by Arthur Sweeny Kiddlestone in 1856. His skin was so sensitive, the only way he could bear to shave was by being absolutely soused on gin. He would then chew a mixture of herbs to disguise the smell before heading to work. Over time he eventually mixed the herbs and gin together to make a concoction that has changed very little to the present day.
